Day 7 - Hampshire to Dorset

Yesterday we started the day looking about the Petersfield area an going to places my ancestors called home.  The highlight was a stop in Priors Dean (via very narrow country roads) where we found the small 13th century church in which my GGF was christened in the late 1800's. After taking a few pictures we were about to leave when a church warden arrived and asked if we'd like to look about inside.  What luck!

If the church looked small from outside, it feels tiny on the inside.  The walls are made from stacked flint covered in a plaster coating.  The walls tilt outwards at the top and the roof is not square.  It was quite a sensation to stand next to the baptismal font in which my GGF would have been christened.

Leaving Priors Dean we travelled to Stonehenge.  Getting there took a little longer because of backed up traffic on the A303.  We took a chance and navigated some back roads thereby avoiding most of the traffic jam.

A new visitor centre is being built and the roads around Stonehenge have been reconfigured making it more of a challenge to locate and access the site.  We wandered around the site for some time enjoying the history and the sunshine.  We could have done with fewer tourists though.  Oh wait, we're in that group!

After Stonehenge we headed down to Beaulieu to visit the National Motor Museum.  Looking about the Top Gear exhibit we saw some of the crazy cars that they've built and some of the cars they've used in their challenges.

Within the museum itself, we all enjoyed reviewing the various older cars and the Cars of Bond exhibit.

To finish the day we drove to Weymouth just in time to watch the sunset and have some dinner.
