Day 6 - Some say....

Time to leave London. After taking the tube back across the city to Heathrow airport, we picked up our Vauxhall Insignia from Enterprise Car Rental.  Driver sits on the right, must remember this.  An electronic e-brake, that's different.... 6-speed manual diesel powered sedan/hatchback.  Interesting car, lots of space and comfortable.

Heading out of the airport I get my first taste of how the English drive their roundabouts.  Kemptville drivers have prepared me a little for this challenge.  Something I will repeat many times today as I lost count of the number of roundabouts after about an hour.

Once clear of the M-25 traffic, we headed South looking for Dunsfold airfield.  After a few navigational challenges, we arrived but saw little (all of a glimpse) of the airfield.  We did however, have a supercar join us on our drive for a few minutes and we felt that this must have come from the Top Gear hanger heading out for a road test.

Our next destination was Beachy Head on the South coast.  A beautiful drive into the South Downs, lots of sheep in fields across gorgeous English countryside vistas.  It was very windy at Beachy Head so we had to be a little careful not to get blown over the cliffs and into the English Channel.

Missing a crucial turn caused us to drive along the Brighton seafront, which was tediously slow with lots of traffic lights.  When we did turn off of the front & attempted to head inland toward the A27 we found ourselves without road signs telling us where to go and we eventually ended up on a dead-end street and having to find our way back to our route.  A good test of my patience and driving skills as the roads got narrower & narrower complete with double-decker busses and cars parked along the roadside.

Eventually we found our way out of Brighton and headed off towards Petersfield, my family's hometown as it were.  Because of our late arrival, we didn't get much of a chance to look about. Like many towns, most city center streets have been converted to one-way streets, so the look around tomorrow should be interesting.  Preparing myself for some more wrong turns along the way.
