Figured out, with the help of staff at the train station, that the cheapest way to see London will be with daily Travelcards. Glad we didn't pre-purchase as we might have spent twice what we are.
Today we'd decided to see The Tower of London and Tower Bridge, but first we needed some food. Found a little place tucked away near the Tower called simply "The Kitchen@Tower". Barb and Brandon both felt that they enjoyed the best club sandwich they'd ever had. We all highly recommend this place, just to the West of the ticket building next to an old church.
Having pre-purchased the London Pass we bypassed the huge ticket lines and were inside The Tower of London in minutes. We choose to start with a self guided walkabout and then joined the long line to see the Crown Jewels. The Queen's 'bling' is definitely worth lining up to see; however, the highlight of the visit is always the Yeoman Warders tour. Led by one of the 37 Yeoman Warders that live at the Tower, the tours takes you to several places about the Tower where he speaks to the history of the Tower and its various inhabitants. They do a great job of making history come alive and have a lot of fun with the crowds.
Leaving the Tower we headed to the Tower Bridge exhibition. Riding a lift to the top of the bridge you get to see some great views up and down the Thames and across the city skyline. As we left the bridge rain arrived and we managed to get down to the Tower Bridge engine room just in time. Barb purchased a couple of umbrellas as by the time we exited the skies had decided that the rain would become a deluge.
As we had gotten off to a later start, it was now late afternoon. Our visit to St Paul's cathedral would have to wait until tomorrow. We headed back out to Broxbourne and enjoyed a nice dinner at The Bull pub.
