All was going well, we'd transferred onto the M6 and navigated around Birmingham on the M6 toll road. We'd even taken a picture of a Wolverhampton road sign as a One Direction memory for Kyra. We continued North stopping for lunch and then detouring into Holmes Chapel, again to add to Kyra's One Direction collection of places visited. This time it was a bakery in which one of me worked before becoming a teen superstar.
We rejoined the M6 and drove for about 15 minutes before, Whoa! Traffic jam. We were just shy of the M56 and it was around 2:00pm. ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... 6:00pm ..... And we'd passed the M62 and were on our way again. That's about 8 miles in 4 hours. Not exactly breaking any speed limits there.
Turns out that a lorry carrying skids of soda pop had lost its load across the motorway spewing glass and sugary sweet drinks everywhere. Here you can see what's left of the now mostly empty soft-sided trailer. Makes me wonder if a hard sided trailer may have retained its load better?
One underway again we'd realized that it was going to be dark when we arrived in Glasgow. We decided to stop for dinner before finishing up drive. Found a lovely service center in Cumbria that had home cooked meals which was a nice treat after the drive we'd been having.
Arrived in Glasgow around 11 and took about 1/2 hour locating the hotel. Phew! We'd made it.
