The year comes to a close and it’s time to look back on what’s happened over the past 366 days.
Winter 2007/08 was long and snowy in Eastern Ontario. January saw a lot of the snow that had fallen melt away leaving many of us hoping that we’d have a short warmer than usual Winter. We were wrong. By the time April had arrived we were on the doorstep of an all-time snowfall record having received ±430cm (±14ft) of the white stuff. Everyone was looking forward to Spring. During all of this Kyra had attended two skating competitions (Brockville & Vankleek Hill) where she earned some medals for her hard work.
March saw the family drive South to Florida for a welcomed break from the cold and snowy conditions at home. We stayed at the Disney Port Orlean’s resort while visiting Walt Disney World, if you’re going to WDW we highly recommend staying on-site. After WDW we spent some time visiting Grandma & Grandpa Hogan in Zephyrhills before heading to Cocoa Beach for a couple of days and visiting the NASA Kennedy Space Center.
Brandon finished Grade 8 this year and really enjoyed his last year in elementary school by being involved in the school band, the African drumming group and by playing one of the lead characters in the school play, ‘Doo Wop Wed Riding Hood’.
The Summer saw us take in the RCMP musical ride, Canada Day and several family events in Southern Ontario. Kyra participated in a week-long riding camp at a local stable and Brandon enjoyed a week at Golf camp. In July we flew to British Columbia to visit Nana & Papa Fisher. It was a wonderful trip albeit too short as always.
September marked the return to school. Kyra is now in Grade 6 whilst Brandon has started High School in Grade 9. The first term saw them both do really well. The Autumn was wonderfully dry and warm; however, by the end of October the first snow had fallen.
December saw more snow making it appear that we could have another very snowy & cold Winter; however, at Christmas a few very warm days reduced the amount of snow on the ground considerably & so we start the New Year wondering what Mother Nature has in store for us.
Christmas was spent, as it should, with friends and family. Lots of fun, frivolity, food and drink. And so into 2009, we’ve not made any big plans for the year, yet more travel might be in the works, we’ll see where it takes us.
Have a Great 2009 everyone!
