We finally bit the bullet and bought a 'big-screen' TV this past weekend. I suppose that it was inevitable that a new TV would arrive into our home at some point; however, as our 32" Toshiba CRT was only about 5 years old it was a hard decision to shell out the money to buy a replacement but buy one we did.
Based upon a lot of research we choose the Samsung 40" A650 LCD flat panel TV. The set has 1080p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate & 50,000:1 contrast ratio. Based on my research the Samsung 6-series LCD sets are the current leader in LCD technology.
Installation was a breeze & because we already have a Bell Expressvu HDTV receiver we were able to immediately appreciate the difference that HD makes (Bell actually only broadcasts at 1080i). Watching the Olympics in HD is mind-blowing (at a loss for something more descriptive).
If you've not watched HDTV find someone who has a set that you can view, it changes television completely.
I'm really looking forward to watching some Blu-Ray DVD's on the set as they will be in full 1080p and should be stunning. This however will have to wait, at least until we buy a Blu-Ray player.
